YOUR CREATIVE NEW YEAR

Happy New Year!

Here’s a fun exercise to determine which creative projects or goals we’re going to work on in 2016. Instead of looking at the entire year ahead, let’s just focus on the first quarter- this takes us from now up until March 31st.

  1. Get a piece of paper and divide it into 3 columns
  2. Label each column with the heading “Project 1”, “Project 2” and “Project 3”
  3. Now, choose your projects/goals- it could be: Project 1- Learn Guitar, Project 2- Go to an Acting Class, Project 3- Write a novel
  4. Look at your list again- is it realistic? Can you actually accomplish these three things by the end of the first quarter, or is this list already stressing you out? Yes or no?
  5. Re-edit list- it might look now look like this Project 1-Start guitar lessons, Project 2- Start going to an Acting Class, Project 3- Write a short story/plot for my novel
  6. Now you have three projects to work on that are actually in your grasp of achieving.
  7. Now under each heading, list 5 steps you need to take in order to achieve these outcomes- for example “Start guitar lessons” a)get guitar out of the garage b) tune it c) research group classes- where are they on/who’s running them/what appeals? d)listen to some music that inspires me e) sign up/attend classes etc.
  8. Do the same kind of list under each project, the Acting Class process will be similar, but if writing is your goal you will need to be more specific/disciplined and realistic, for example- how much time can you devote to your practice? Do you need to set your alarm half an hour early just to get up and write before the rest of the household interrupts you?
  9. Now you have a blue print for the first quarter of the year. The list should now feel supportive to your wishes, not stressful. Don’t forget to tick off your achievements from this list, no matter how small! For example, you can’t start guitar lessons without getting your guitar out of the garage- tick! That’s one thing off your list.

I hope this year is super creative for you and you are able to connect with your soul through that which you love- be it music, art, writing, performance or whatever makes you smile. CREATIVE PERFORMANCE; A METHOD FOR ACTIVATING THE SOUL

Hi Peeps,

My 7 Week Courses in Creative Performance kick off tomorrow in Newcastle “Acting Fundamentals” for Beginners/Intermediate and “Pasvolsky Studio”for Upper Intermediate/Advanced…but if you don’t live in Newcastle but are interested in the work I also have Skype classes/tuition and will be holding in person workshops in Sydney in early 2016. So please, if this work speaks to you- do get in touch.

The purpose of my work is to introduce students, clients and participants to dynamic and soul shifting techniques, which are designed to radically shift individuals into a place of self empowerment, confidence and receptivity. It is not traditional Actor Training- it’s Creative Guidance.

In the Beginners Class, students work with Voice, Movement and Improvisation and focus on creating their own characters, characterisations and scenes. There is an emphasis on supportive performance and participants are often amazed at how quickly they can move into a place of self assurance, actualisation and creativity.

The Pasvolsky Studio focuses on a different “Master Teacher” or Practitioner each week, which is the emphasis of the learning. We then use that master teacher/practitioner or style as the basis of creating our own original content for performance. This all happens within the time frame of three hours.

This week in the studio our inspirational artist is Mike Leigh. We will look at the work, ethics, style and unique vision of Mike Leigh and then participate in exercises I have designed based on the improvisational techniques of ML. Students will create a character, based on somebody they know and then start improvisations/interviews with other ensemble members which will then develop into scenes and then into a performance.

We’ve got a very exciting 7 Weeks ahead of us, if this sounds like something you may like to access- please do get in touch. Best wishes, Claire x

PASVOLSKY STUDIO- A DIFFERENT KIND OF ACTOR TRAINING

First of all, I don’t just train actors. I help individuals step into their power so that they can experience the wonder of their artistry. That may sound extreme, but really, everyone who feels guided, curious or compelled to join one of my Acting or Creativity courses is hearing their soul request to experience something special.

If you decide to train with me, you will experience a different kind of actor training. I believe if a participant does not receive support, nourishment and the feeling of safety then they will not be able to experience the highest form of their creativity. In order to experience creative joy that is unbounded pure energy, a student needs to be uplifted and empowerment. My work is all about empowering artists as they step into their birthright of self expression and heightened creativity.

During my own actor training, there was very little emotional support from my teachers- not always, but generally- given the depth of the emotional well you were expected to dive into and the great extent of the vulnerability you were required to participate in performance training. Students need a safety net. Artists need to know that they are safe and protected when they step into the space.

In my classes and coaching the safety net is ALWAYS there. There are now rules of respect, guidelines and boundaries to firmly have in place a code of conduct and ethics:

a) If you ever feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable by an exercise or sections of a workshop you are welcome to observe or step out of the room

b) We treat each other with respect and honour peoples words and perspectives by fully listening to them and not interrupting them when they’re speaking

c) If you are ever given material (a scene or scenario) that you don’t feel comfortable with tell me and we’ll find you something else

In my Acting and Creativity Courses you will feel supported, safe, guided, inspired and fully engaged. If the choice feels right for you- enrolments are being taken for the 7 Week Courses in Term 4. For details see the website (clairepasvolsky.com or email me clairepasvolsky@gmail.com)- early bird specials end this week. Alternatively if you are not in Newcastle but require coaching and support I run sessions over Skype for my national and international students)

If the choice feels right for you, get in touch today. cx

WHEN WE GET WHAT WE WANT

“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” Buddha

The first thing to do when you get what you really, really want is to notice it. So often, we are so caught up in focusing on the next thing, that we fail to realise we have achieved a major goal, accomplishment, or heart’s desire.

One way to do this is to break your life down into seven year cycles. 0-7, 7-14, 14-21, 21-28, 28-35, 35-42, 42-49, 49-56, and so on. Look at how every seven years have been different and what you have accomplished in those  periods. You’ll be amazed at how much has happened.

Sometimes we are so busy living our lives that we don’t notice how much we already have.

Shine like the whole Universe is yours.” Rumi

Often, when we achieve something major, we run the risk of feeling like we don’t deserve it. You do deserve the gift, whatever it is- destiny says that it’s meant to be yours. Listen to that small, depleting voice that warns, “I don’t deserve this”, “Somebody might take this away from me”, “I’m a fraud,”- that voice may be trying to protect you, but that voice is not your advocate. You deserve success. You deserve happiness. You deserve to live the life of your dreams.“In my defencelessness, my safety lies.” A Course in Miracles

Just be grateful and say thank you. Be open to receiving that which is wonderful.

Creative Coaching/Power Sessions are available via Skype- email me for more information. Current live workshops include “Acting Fundamentals” Thursday evenings at Tantrum and “Imago Actors Studio”- see website for details. DIY 2 Minute Cubby

Remember throwing a sheet over an ironing board when you were a kid and creating your own imaginary no frills play house?

Sometimes the most simple ideas are the best. Find a table, any table, put down a rug and cushions and toys and throw a large sheet over the top. Voila!

And if the kids get over it you can always hide in it later to get 5 minutes peace or a power nap! Xx

Cultivating Joy

Hi Friends,

Hope all is well so far in the New Year. I love Robert Holden’s words, “Dear Joy, I’m all yours! What would you like me to do with my life today?” Joy is such a beautiful thing, and if we sit and think for a few minutes now about the things that bring us the greatest joy; often they are very simple things and don’t cost much to; and in actual fact, you may be able to include them in your life each day.

So right now, grab a pen and paper. At the top of the page write; “The things that bring me joy” and write the numbers 1-20 down the side of the page (if 20 is too high a number, just write down 10 items) Your list might look something like this…

The things that bring me Joy

1. swimming in the ocean

2. walking on the sand

3. walking in nature

4. playing with my children

5. talking with my best friend

6. playing improvisational Jazz piano

7. watching romantic comedies

8. cooking a healthy meal from scratch

9. jumping on the trampoline (like I did when I was seven!)

10. Listening to Bohemian Rhapsody full blast in the car

Write you list, and commit to doing at least one thing on it this week, no matter how small and have fun doing things that bring you joy!

Claire 🙂
