Holistic Detox: Day 1

Meal Plan
Breakfast: stewed fruit, lemon tea and 500 ml water

Morning Tea: Green Juice and 500 ml water

Lunch: Watercress Soup and 100 g of protein (tofu, turkey or chicken)

Afternoon Tea: a handful of nuts and 500 ml water

Dinner: Pumpkin and Tofu Curry

The Recipes
Stewed Fruit: chop and boil 2 pears and 2 apples. Leave the skin on. Once cooked, drain water and mash. sprinkle a little cinnamon on top

Lemon water is just boiled water with 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice. It’s best to have this before eating anything.

Green Juice
If you don’t have a juicer, you might want to buy a fresh juice or substitute with a piece of fruit. You can experiment here so long as its green! Great combos are kale, cucumber and apple; spinach, mint and apple

Watercress Soup
1 bunch of watercress
1 potato
1 onion
1 litre of vegetable stock

Finely chop the onion and dice the potato and boil in the stock until cooked.
Wash the watercress and remove stems, chop finely.
Add the cress to the stock soup, turn the heat down and simmer until the cress is wilted.
Blend the soup, add a little salt and pepper and lemon juice. Voila!

Pumpkin and Tofu Curry
1/2 a butternut pumpkin
300 g firm tofu
3 cups of rocket, spinach or kale
Lemon juice
Olive oil
Curry Powder
Coriander

Heat oven full blast (250 degrees)

Chop pumpkin and tofu into cubes and pour into an oven proof dish

In a separate bowl whisk half a cup of olive oil and a tablespoon of curry powder

Stir marinade through the pumpkin and tofu (the tofu will crumble at this point, but not to worry)

Bake for 45 mins to 1 hour or until pumpkin is cooked through

Remove from the oven and stir in your chosen green vegetable, 1/4 cup of lemon juice and coriander

Serves 2- 4 people

Holistic Detox Routine
Morning
20- 60 minute walk
5 to 20 minutes of meditation
1-3 pages of automatic writing (optional)

Evening
Write down 10 things you are grateful for
Have a bath with Epsom salts or a hot shower and go to bed early
Instead of watching telly or reading a trash mag try reading something inspirational like Shakti Gawaiin’s “Creative Visualisation” or Thicht Naht Hahn’s “Peace at Every Step” . Sleep tight!

Remember, everything is optional and are only suggestions for improving your overall well being xx

Preparation Detox ; 7 Days to Feel Fabulous

Hi Friends,

Has anyone else slipped off the wagon over Passover and Easter? As a multicultural family, we celebrate everything! Now it’s time to get back on the straight and narrow. I’ve designed a sensible detox plan (with yummy food) for a seven day period. The main reason I detox is to feel healthy, but of course there are many added benefits. Detox starts on Monday, so below is a meal plan and shopping list for the week ahead. Who’s in?

Shopping List

Loads of veggies- kale, spinach, onions, lettuce, zucchini, watercress, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, cauliflower, pumpkin, broccoli, tomatoes, potato (you won’t need many of these), frozen greens and peas, fruit; apples, lemons, oranges, berries, bananas etc.

Herbs- coriander, mint, basil

Tofu (firm), Japanese marinated tofu, turkey, chicken, whole free range chicken to roast, beef stewing meat (500g), salmon, can of tuna, leg of lamb, free range eggs

Olive oil, Massel stock cubes (vegetable and chicken), nuts (unsalted, almonds/walnuts/ brazilian)

Cans of diced tomatoes (large ones)

coconut water, filtered water, herbal tea (optional)

Meal Plan

The idea here is to be flexible. Breakfast is the same throughout the week, a green juice (with kale, spinach, cucumber, mint and apple), fruit salad, and lemon tea.

Morning tea is a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit.

Lunch is a vegetable soup (carrot and ginger, watercress, tomato and basil, broccoli and cauliflower, spinach and potato,

cheat’s chicken soup, pea and pesto) and a small amount of protein (either tofu, turkey or chicken)

Dinner recipes include; Pumpkin Tofu Curry, Roast Comfort Chicken, Slow Cooked Beef Stew with Cauliflower Mash, Baked Salmon and Greens, Salad Nicoise, Zucchini Frittata, Lamb Roast with Mash and Greens

Removing Triggers…

If you don’t have booze, sugar, dairy and gluten in the house it can really help when you’re doing a detox. If the triggers aren’t there, you’re less likely to slip into a pit of sugary, fatty toxins

Getting Organised…

You might want to prepare your meals the day before, so everything is ready. Having the soup already made and the fruit salad already chopped will make life a lot easier.

Remember…

This is just a guide line. You can adapt these recipes, repeat them or skip them. The goal is just to have healthy food and beverages for a week and notice the difference in your overall well being. Good luck! xx

Miso chicken soup for the soul

Hi friends,
I’ve had a shocking cold for 48 hours (maybe a little emotional congestion from christmas) and I think this recipe might have been the cure!

Ingredients
1 tablespoon miso paste
1 cup of cooked shredded free range chicken
2 onions
1 zucchini
1 carrot

Instructions
Throw it all in a pot and bring to the boil , then simmer for 20 minutes
Finally, put the chicken and veggies in a strainer and put aside (could make a chicken pie later) so you’re left with a clear broth and sip away…

All I know is I’m definitely on the mend and I’m thanking the soup for it!
Claire 🙂
